Shillong ( Meghalaya), March 01 : 11 students from the state who were left stranded in the war hit Ukraine, have landed in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted, “11 students of Meghalaya who are studying in Ukraine, have reached Delhi safely”. ”Efforts are on to get the rest of the students back home safely,” he added.
The embassy had asked students to go to the railway station in Kyiv, where special evacuation trains have been arranged by Ukraine to take people to the western region.
The students were also asked to carry their passports, sufficient cash, good and proper clothing. The advisory asked students to expect train delays or cancellations, and long queues.
The government has also set up a dedicated Twitter handle to assist in the evacuation of Indians from Ukraine under Operation Ganga.
The Twitter account lists helpline numbers in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic – all nations which share a border with Ukraine.
