Khanapara(Meghalaya), Nov 10 : The IA Ayurvedic Medical College (IAMC) and the University Hospital of Ayurveda and Naturopathy (UHAN) at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya today celebrated the 8 th National Ayurveda Day by organizing Yoga sessions, a Rally, a lecture on Ayurveda and a puja offered to the God of medicine—Sri Sri Dhanwantari. The lecture on the theme “Ayurveda for One Health” was delivered by Prof (Dr) OP Gupta, Retd. Prof. Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital Guwahati.
Addressing the gathering, Prof OP Gupta said, “Everyone knowing Ayurveda must say that investigation is important. Investigation helps us to diagnose better.” He also said that Ayurveda talks about personal health along with social health. Prof Gupta elaborated on how Ayurveda played a significant role during the Covid-19 pandemic.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque also addressed the audience and said that admissions for the Bachelor course in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) are going on now atIAAMC. “Though we are starting with 60 seat capacity now, the number will be increasednext year. In the near future, before 2030, all healthcare divisions—Allopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy—along with research will exist in the USTM campus.”
In this regard, Dr Anil Kr Sarma, Principal, IAMC said, “The new IAAMC of USTM has begun functioning from the current academic session. The puja of Sri Sri Dhanwantari has been offered for the first time at the college campus to mark the auspicious journey.”
IAMC has received all the approvals of the statutory body namely the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), Ministry of Ayush and admissions for 2023-24 session are going on at present, he added.
The day began with Yoga Session which was followed by the Ayurveda Day Rally. After the commencement of the Puja, Prof. (Dr) O. P. Gupta Rtd Professor, Govt. Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Guwahati delivered a speech on the significance of Ayurveda in life.
Ayurveda Day is celebrated nationwide as it is the birth Anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari, the god of medicine. The Ministry of Ayush, Govt of India, has declared this day as National Ayurveda day from the year 2016. It is celebrated with a view to exploring the potential of Ayurveda for holistic health.
This year’s theme for the day is “Ayurveda for One Health “.
