Kokrajhar(Assam), Oct 25: A suspected militant cadre, identified as Ipril Murmu alias Rohit Murmu, was killed in a police encounter in Nadangiri Hills near Salakati in Kokrajhar district. Murmu was the prime accused in the IED blast on the railway track near Singimari gate on Thursday, which damaged the track and disrupted train services.
According to police sources, a search operation was launched after receiving a tip-off about the movement of militant organization members in the area. During the operation, a cross-firing took place between police and suspected NSLA Naxalite cadres, resulting in Murmu’s death.
A pistol, two grenades, and some objectionable materials were recovered from the encounter site. The police have intensified their operation in the area, with senior officials confirming that at least four jawans received minor injuries during the incident.
The deceased was a hard-core cadre of the NSLA militant organization and a close aide of Naxalites, involved in anti-national activities like bomb blasts in Jharkhand. The police are continuing their search operation in the Nadangiri Hills.
