Kokrajhar (Assam), Feb 8: In a significant political development, former deputy chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and vice president of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Kampa Borgoyary, formally joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Saturday.
Borgoyary’s defection, along with over 400 supporters and well-wishers, is seen as a major boost to the UPPL’s popularity in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The joining ceremony, held at the Thaikhajhora playground in Chirang district, was attended by UPPL president and Chief Executive Member of BTR, Pramod Boro, and other senior party leaders.
Borgoyary, a senior BPF leader, was accompanied by several other BPF leaders, including organising secretary Afjal Khan and former BPF secretary Pranjit Basumatary. The UPPL president welcomed Borgoyary with traditional Aronai and a bouquet, amidst a well-attended gathering.
This development comes after Borgoyary’s resignation from the BPF party earlier this month. His defection to the UPPL is expected to further strengthen the party’s presence in the region.
