Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Nov 24 : Chief Minister , Conrad Sangma along with his cabinet colleauges met Union Home Minister, Amit Shah this evening to apprise him about the unfortunate firing incident in Mukroh village that claimed 6 precious lives.
The Union Home Minister gave the assurance to constitute an enquiry under a central agency. The order for the same will be out soon.
The delegation also shared with the Union HM that the root cause of the tension that has been building up in the area and the other areas has to do with the long-pending border issue between Assam & Meghalaya.
CM Conrad Sangma pointed out that different incidents have led to the situation becoming more tense which ultimately led to the situation where the incident happened in Mukroh. Therefore, it is imperative that all efforts should be made to ensure that the border dispute is settled.
He also apprised the Home Minister that with the incident at Mukroh, the ongoing border talks with Assam has hit a hurdle and there is a lot of areas where trust has to be rebuilt and therefore, the intervention of GoI is necessary to this end.
The delegation also discussed about the safety and security of the people in the border area especially in sensitive and disputed zones & urged GoI to initiate a process for both State Govts. to come together & ensure such incidents do not reoccur in the future.
CM Sangma stressed to Union HM Amit Shah for the support of GoI to ensure that basic supply of essential commodities should not be disrupted and for cooperation of neighbouring states for the same.
Apart from these ,discussions were also held on other matters like the demand for inclusion of Khasi & Garo languages in the VIII Schedule, implementation of ILP & to allow the Govt. to go ahead with the MRSSA.
