Moran (Assam), Feb 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) here, marking a significant milestone in the region’s strategic and disaster-response infrastructure. The facility, built at a cost of ₹100 crore, can handle fighter jets up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes, and will serve as a vital asset for national security and disaster management.
The ELF, located on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh, was inaugurated by PM Modi, who landed there in a C-130J aircraft. The facility is designed for both civil and military use, providing an alternative runway to Dibrugarh airport during emergencies. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the inauguration as a “paradigm shift” in securing the Northeast frontier.
The event was followed by an aerial display of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters, showcasing the facility’s capabilities. PM Modi also launched several development projects in Assam, including a Brahmaputra bridge, a National Data Centre, and an Indian Institute of Management.
