Kokrajhar (Assam),April 2 : With the reports of 16 positive case of COVID-19 in Assam, the nationwide lockdown has become more strict in all districts including Kokrajhar, the heart of BTAD administration as the lockdown entered into 9th day on Thursday .
There are no reports of positive case of COVID-19 in the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Areas District(BTAD) ,so far .
The lockdown evoked full response with bazar, business establishment and ,road communications remaining closed.
District police administrations has increased security deployment to create awareness against COVID-19 outbreak in the districts at the entry of all main roads .
Police in Kokrajhar has appealed to all sections of the society to maintain social distancing and stay at home in wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
“Strict security has been deployed in entire BTAD districts including more security deployments at Srirampur in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 amongst the citizens”, said a senior police officer.
A total 487 persons are taking shelter in the six quarantine centers set up in Kokrajhar district and are under strict observation with proper medical check up.
The centres have been set up by district administration to check those persons who are coming from neighbouring states towards Assam in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.
Four of the six quarantine centres were set up at Srirampur itself along the inter state border with West Bengal with one each at Fakiragram and Kokrajhar to stop the spread of the virus in the district.
District administration and health department officials are working day and night and till today there are no reports of any COVID-19 case from any parts of the district.
The persons who are taking shelter at quarantine centre are being provided with necessary medical check up by medical officers on a daily basis, said Dr Amol Mochary, a senior medical officer in Kokrajhar.
Kokrajhar Rup Nath Brahma(RNB) civil hospital has been converted to isolation ward and intensive care unit(ICU) for COVID-19.
“There are 25 isolation ward in RNB civil hospital in Kokrajhar along with ICU facilities to combat the outbreak Coronavirus”,Mochary said.
Doctors including nurses and medical staffs are fully prepared to fight against the virus in the district and necessary strategies have been initiated as per the guidelines from from the government and health department,he said.
However,sufficient masks,sanitizers and some required logistics has not yet reached till date in the district.He urged the higher authorities to make sufficient supply of the required materials for smooth functioning in the hospitals.
He also informed that there are reports that 24 persons attended Nizamuddin congregation in New Delhi from Kokrajhar district,but according to information available no one of them have returned to their respective homes till date.
Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar Partha Pratim Majumdar informed that district administration is fully prepared to fight to Coronavirus outbreak in the district.He said that concerned departments as well as several line departments are on high alert to combat the prevailing situation.
Assam Social Welfare minister and in-charge of the Kokrajhar district, Pramila Rani Brahma has instructed the food and civil supplies department to be ready and ensure sufficient stock of essential commodities in the district.She also said Health and Family welfare department should ensure availability of masks for the doctors and nurses who are engaged in combating COVID-19 virus .
The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) has come forward to extend help by distributing essential commodities among the BPL families in Udalguri district yesterday during the lockdown periods.
Central committee of ABSU and Udalguri district unit have jointly distributed essential items which included Rice, Dal, potato, mustard oil, sugar to the daily wage earners and rickshaw pullers of Udalguri district.
