Guwahati(Assam), May 21 : The state’s COVID-19 positive cases crossed the double mark from 100 cases on May 17 to 203 in just 4 days today .
Assam recorded its first positive case on March 31 and it took 37 days for the figure to reach 50 on May 7. It doubled to reach the 100 figure mark in 10 days on May 17 and today the figure stands at 203.
This evening ,the state registered 4 more COVID 19 positive cases taking the total number to 203.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said all the fresh cases are from Sarusajai quarantine centre here.
He said 2 of the fresh patients are from the West Karbi Anglong district, the two others are from Darrang and Udalguri districts.
While the active COVID19 cases registered in Assam increased to 142 , a total 54 COVID19 patients have been discharged from various hospitals across the state after their recovery.
The Health Minister tweeted at 8 pm “Alert ~ Four persons reported #COVID19 positive from Sarusajai Quarantine Centre – 2 belong to West Karbi Anglong; 1 each from Darrang and Udalguri.”
Our Kokrjhar Bureau adds : Four more person were tested COVID-19 positive at Barpeta Medical College & Hospital who were taking shelter at SAI quarantine centre in Kokrajhar.
They have been identified as Tilok Lama(20),,Nazrul Islam(18),Saidul Ali(24) and Saddam Hussain(21),all are hailed from Barpeta district. Earlier,Ashan Ali(18) was detected positive on May 5 and Sabbesh Ali(59) on May19
A total 2600 peoples are lodged in 22 quarantine centres and five designated hotel/ lodge in entire Kokrajhar district.
The persons who have reached in Kokrajhar after stranding at different places across the country due to lockdown are lodged at various quarantine centres set up in three subdivisions of Kokrajhar district which includes-Kokrajhar(10), Gossaigaon(7) and Parbatjhora(5) .
According to national health mission official sources in Kokrajhar, since outbreak of Coronavirus in the state,nearly 4000 samples have been collected till date in the district,majority of the samples reported negative and only two samples tested positive.
Over one lakh people have gone through the entry scanning at Srirampur along the inter-state gate and railway station in Kokrajhar district since COVID-19 outbreak till date.
Meanwhile, a review meeting on preparedness and setting up new quarantine centre to combat the Coronavirus outbreak in Kokrajhar district region was held at deputy commissioner office conference hall on Wednesday in Kokrajhar.
The meeting was attended by Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma,Assam minister for WPT & BC and Tourism Chandan Brahma,MLAs Rabiram Narzary,Majendra Narzary,Deputy Commissioner Kokrajhar Bhaskar Phukan,SP Rakesh Roushan and several senior officials of district administration.
The meeting discussed thoroughly on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the district and it’s strategy to combat the Coronavirus outbreak.
The meeting decided to set up new quarantine centres across the district as large number of people are returning back to Assam after being stranded at different places due to the lockdown.
