Kokrajhar (Assam),May 31: A cattle mafia received serious bullet injuries today during a gunfight at Srirampur Simultapu area in Kokrajhar district.
The incident took place this evening at around 4.30 pm at Srirampur Simultapu along the interstate border check gate with West Bengal.
According to reports, the cattle mafia first fired from his pistol targeting police and in retaliation Police also fired at him injuring him on his left leg.
The cattle mafia has been identified as Sahajalal Sheik(50) of Simultapu.
He was rushed to RNB civil hospital immediately after the incident and was referred to Barpeta medical college due to his critical condition.
He was one of the most wanted criminal and was involved with cattle smuggling and murder along the Srirampur border for many years.
A pistol and four live ammunition were recovered from his possession .
SP Kokrajhar, Prateek Thube Vijay Kumar that Sheik was a wanted criminal and was earlier arrested twice by police for his involvement in anti social activities.
Sheik was later tested COVID-19 positive at the hospital.
