Guwahati (Assam), Mar 7: Sprinter Hima Das will be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Assam police, Assam’s finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision of the government in the assembly.
Dr. Sarma said,“Those sports persons from Assam who have won gold medals in Olympic, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be appointed as the grade one officer of the Assam Government.”
“We are happy to announce that ‘Dhing Express’ Hima Das will be the first beneficiary of this initiative. She will be offered the post of DSP,” Sarma said .
”This initiative would be helpful in promoting sporting spirit among the young people of the state”. he added
The state government also announced that the rank of Grade-I officers such as DSP or magistrate would be awarded to athletes who have won medals at the Olympics, Asian Games or the Commonwealth Games.
Immediately after the announcement , Hima Das took to Twitter to thank Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma for offering her the DSP post.
“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Chief Minister @sarbanandsonwal sir and the Honorable Finance Minister of Assam @himantabiswa sir for having offering me the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in recognition of my achievements and motivating me and countless budding sports persons to strive for medal winning performance,” Hima Das said in a series of tweets.
“Today I reaffirm my commitment to push my limits and excel in the upcoming Games and bring laurel to Assam and Bharat (sic.),” Hima Das said.
