Kokrajhar ( Assam) ,Mar 19: A total 27 nomination papers have been filed till the last day of filing of nomination papers on Friday in three constituencies of Kokrajhar district which includes No.30 Kokrajhar East(ST), No.29 Kokrajhar West (ST) and No.28 Gossaigaon(General LAC).
In Kokrajhar East constituency, six candidates have filed nomination papers for the electoral battle .
In Kokrajhar West LAC,nine candidates are in fray while 12 candidates are in fray in Gossaigaon constituency.
In No.31 Sidli constituency, ten candidates have filed nomination papers.
On the last day of filing of nomination papers on Friday,two more independent candidates filed their nomination which includes two time executive member Bodoland Territorial Council ( BTC) and senior BPF leader Manaj Kumar Brahma and Bidinta Narzary .
Brahma was former executive member of BTC since 2005 to 2015 under the BPF ruled BTC government. However , he is contesting the assembly elections from Kokrajhar East constituency after being denied a party ticket.
He said that there is no impact of BPF and UPPL candidates in Kokrajhar East constituency and accordingly his candidature is getting last laugh from the Kokrajhar East constituency as common voters are voting in favour of his candidature in the assembly elections.
“I am hopeful that my candidature will get massive support cutting across the communities in the Kokrajhar East constituency amidst the tough contest between Pramila Rani Brahma and Lawrence Islary”,he added.
Meanwhile,a total of 10 nominations were filed by 8 candidates for 31-Sidli (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) in Chirang election district till Friday.
The filing of nomination papers for the third-phase election ended here also on Friday at 3 PM with 4 candidates namely Ranjay Kumar Brahma (JDU), Smriti Basumatary (Ind), Joseph Basumatary (Ind) and Bubul Das (Ind) filed their nomination papers on the last day for filing of nomination papers .
The other candidates who submitted their nomination papers earlier to the Returning Officer for 31- Sidli (ST) LAC, are sitting MLA and Assam Minister Chandan Brahma of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Joyanta Basumatary of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Manamati Goyary of the Voters Party International (VPI) and one independent candidate- Jisoya Champramary.
The Sidli assembly seat comprises 362 polling stations spread across the Kajalgaon Sadar Sub- Division with 9 zones and 27 sectors.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Chirang district GautamTalukdar, who accepted the nomination papers as Returning Officer of the constituency, said that he had received nominations from both political parties and individuals, but the exact number of eligible candidates would be known only after scrutiny and withdrawals.
During the process, he asked all the candidates and their agents to attend the scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled to be held on March 20, 2021 at 11AM in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Kajalgaon.
On the other hand, the District Election Officer (DEO) and in-charge of Bijni Civil Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Dhruba Das has informed that the General Observer for 33- Bijni LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) Niranjan Kumar Sudhansu is presently available at Bijni. and if any political parties or individuals have any queries and complaints regarding election related matters in respect to the Bijni assembly segment can meet him directly at his office chamber adjacent to the DEO’s room of the office SDO (C), Bijni from March 19, 2021, onwards between 11 AM to 1 PM or he can be contacted directly over mobile number 9365375316.
On Friday, the General Observer held discussion with the District Election Officer and other officials to take stock of the election preparedness of the district.
In Baksa, founder president of UPPL and ex Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma filed his nomination paper before the returning officer of Chapaguri LAC for contesting the assembly elections from Chapaguri LAC.
UPPL candidate for Barama constituency Bhupen Boro filed his nomination paper on Friday .
