Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Aug 17: Coinciding with the Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhis tree plantation drive in Jharbari, miscreants stormed into Forest office and vandalized the complex at Ultapani in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.
A group of nearly hundred people consisting of females vandalized the Ultapani forest range office on Monday afternoon and damaged the properties belonging to the forest office along the India-Bhutan border in Assam.
According to forest officials i,the public’s attack occured after forest department detained two forest mafias on Sunday night while they were felling Sal trees inside the deep forest under Ultapani forest range.The detained miscreants have been identified as Thangki Narzary and Sumit Sumpramari of No.2 Ultapani village.
This morning , the duo were allowed to go home after a compromise this morning but in the afternoon a group of miscreants proceeded to the forest office and vandalized the entire office . At least 2 two official vehicles of the office were damaged .
Apart from the vehicles , furniture’s ,official documents, generators belonging to office were totally damaged .
The forest staff including the ranger Hemanta Mushahary fled from the spot as the mob stormed the forest range office.
The registration numbers of damaged vehicles are Bolero(AS16A 9823), Renault Kwid(AS 26B 3923),Wagon R (AS26 AA 4982) and Bolero pickup(AS16B 9452),Scooter (AS16G 3929) and Bike(AS 01Y 2547).
Police have arrested eight persons who were involved in the incident .
Ranger Hemanta Mushahary expressed serious concern over the incident .He said that forest guards do their routine patrolling along the reserve area felling of trees and deforestation activities are a regular feature in the jungle areas.
