Kokrajhar(Assam),Mar 17: A total 26 candidates representing different political parties including ruling Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) and opposition United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) filed their nomination papers on Tuesday in in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts for the council elections slated to be held on April 4 next.
In Kokrajhar subdivision, six candidates from different political parties and organisations including four candidates from United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) filed their nomination papers before the assistant returning officers . Four candidates from UPPL including Pratibha Brahma(Baukhungri), Rabiram Brahma(Banargaon), Hitesh Mushahary(Salakati) and Buddadev Mushahary(Debargaon) filed their respective nomination papers before the assistant returning officer at DC office Kokrajhar.The party candidates were accompanied by hundreds of party supporters while filing their nominations .
Gana Suraksha Party(GSP) nominee Manaj Kumar Rabha filed his nomination for Debargaon constituency and Independent candidate Nijwm Mashahary for Salakati constituency for the council elections.
In Gossaigaon subdivision, nine candidates including five from BPF and four from UPPL filed their nomination papers before the assistant returning officer at Gossaigaon subdivision today.
BPF candidate Hagrama Mohilary filed his second nomination for Kachugaon constituency. Others include Reoreoa Narzihary(Jomduar), Mrityunjay Narzary(Saraibill), Rahindra Brahma(Guma) and Abdul Khalek Mondal(Srirampur) .
UPPL candidates which included Jyotirindra Brahma(Dotma),Ukil Mushahary(Kachugaon),Shila Basumatary(Saraibil) and Jiran Basumatary(Jomduar) filed their nominations for their respective constituencies for the council elections today.
This time around ,president of the ruling Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) Hagrama Mohilary,who is also BTC chief has decided to contest from two seats in Debargaon and Kachugaon constituency respectively in the upcoming council elections.Mohilary filed his nomination papers for Kachugaon constituency on Tuesday.
Notably, on Monday, Mohilary had filed his nomination papers for Debargaon constituency and today he field his nomination papers for Kachugaon constituency accompanied by hundreds of his supporters and well wishers.
A total 11 candidates representing different political parties and organisations filed their nomination papers before assistant returning officers in Chirang district on Tuesday.
Four of them filed nomination papers in Kajalgaon Sadar and seven filed in Bijni civil sub-division.
Saikhong Basumatary from BPF and Maoti Brahma Hazoary from UPPL filed their nomination papers for 13-Chirang (ST) constituency.
For 14-Chirang Duars (ST) constituency and 15-Kajalgaon (ST) Ranjit Basumatary and Rwngwra Narzary of UPPL party submitted their nomination before the assistant returning officer at their respective constituencies.
On the other hand, for the first time during the process of submission of nominations a total of 7 candidates filed their nomination papers in the office of the Bijni civil sub-division and returning officer, Bijni. The candidates are Guneswar Goyary of UPPL and Arun Narzary of Cong(I) for Subhaijhar constituency, James Basumatary of BPF and Nirmal Brahma of UPPL for Nichima, Suresh Daimary of UPPL for Manas Serfang and Moniwin Muchahary(Ind) and Lankeswar Dev Ray from CPI(M) .
Mohilary after filling his nomination papers,told told South Asia Views that he has decided to contest in two seats as there was mass demand to represent both the constituencies in the council elections.He reiterated that BPF is getting mass support from every nook and corner and will be forming the next council administration.
“Common voters from Kachugaon constituency want me represent the constituency,so i have decided to contest from that constituency, also “, Mohilary added.
For Baukhungri constituency Pratibha Brahma filed her nomination before the assistant returning officer at DCs office in Kokrajhar .
She was accorded warm warm greetings and felicitations by hundreds of her supporters while she was on her way to file the nomination papers.She was accompanied by senior party leader Bidyadhar Brahma Choudhury.
Choudhury said that this UPPL candidate is sure to win the Baukhungri seat as all sections of the citizens are coming forward to support her candidature.
UPPL candidate from Banargaon constituency Rabiram Brahma filed his nomination paper today .Brahma was accompanied by several party leaders including Chinmoy Dey for filing of his nomination papers .He blamed that BPF ruled BTC administration as it failed to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the common masses during their 17 years of rule .
Buddadev Mushahary, UPPL candidate from Debargaon constituency after filling his nomination paper said that he was confident of winning from the prestigious Debargaon constituency with majority support.He said that the general public are coming forward to extend support to the UPPL to bring ‘ parivartan’ welfare environment among all sections of the communities.
UPPL candidate from Salakati constituency Hitesh Mushahary said that he is getting massive support from different communities and organisations to pave way healthy integration and development .
Former MP and senior UPPL leader UG Brahma said that UPPL will win majority of the council seats as peoples from all walks of life are coming forward to extend support to the party.
He said that UPPL always wants peace and integrity among all sections of the society.He expressed his resentment over the attack at Supply party office in Chirang and demanded adequate measures to check such incidents happening ahead of the council elections.
On BPF chief Mohilary’s decision to contest from two seats in the council elections,Brahma said that it is his personal and party’s and he would not like to comment
