Kokrajhar (Assam),Mar 12: After the announcement of the notification for the BTC general election on April 4 next,several political parties like the United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL), BPF, CPI-M,Congress,BJP have geared up to contest the forthcoming council elections with their own candidates and claiming the to get the majority by winning the council polls .
The elections are being held for 40 seats in four districts of the BTAD region.
United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) president Pramod Boro today claimed that his party would be contesting in all 40 seats in the upcoming council elections and expressed confidence that his party would win majority of the seats and form the next council in BTC.
Boro while addressing an election rally at Bashbari under Baukhungri constituency here today,alleged that BPF ruled BTC administration has been indulging in large scale corruption in the region.He added that the BPF ruled BTC administration has totally failed to fulfill hopes and aspirations in their 17 years of misrule in council.
He said that UPPL was working for the welfare and development in the region.
He has assured that UPPL would ensure a corruption free society to create a healthy and integrated society.
He also condemned the recent attack at the UPPL office at Birhangaon in Chirang district.
It may be noted that unknown miscreants torched and attacked UPPL party office late last night and damaged the furniture’s in the office .He demanded strict action and arrest of the culprits behind the incident .
He appealed that the council elections should be held in a free and fair manner .
He informed that names of the candidates from the party is likely to be released on Friday in here for all the 40 seats.
Nearly 2500 new members from different political parties and social organisations including BPF,Congress joined the UPPL at Bashbari in Kokrajhar and Gurubasha in Chair districts today.
The new entrants were welcomed by the UPPL president Pramod Boro and top party leaders.
Meanwhile, nearly 2000 new members from different political parties and organisations including UPPL,Congress have joined in BPF in Parbatjhora district today.
BPF leader and president of Parbatjhora district committee of BPF Moonmoon Brahma welcomed the new members who joined the party at a party meeting held at Aronai Complex in Kokrajhar.
Brahma said that BPF is winning alleast 30 seats and would again form the council .
CPI (M ) leader Santosh Guha announced that it would be contesting in 10 seats with their own symbols in the council elections.
Congress leader BTAD Majharul Islam said that the Congress would be contesting in 21 seats and are expecting to win majority of the seats .He said that his party will allign with the majority party who would form next council .
In another development ,ruling partner in the state,BJP has decided to field candidates in 20 seats .The party has resolved to put candidates in several constituencies where the party has a strong support and base ,said a senior leader of BJP in Assam.
