Guwahati (Assam) , April 19 : The surge in the Covid cases in the state continues with 1367 new cases detected in the state on Monday out which 482 cases have been reported from Guwahati and its neighbouring areas .
Majority of the cases detected in Guwahati were from Guwahati Railway Station and Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport here .
The overall positivity percentage is (1367 cases out of 65410 test done = 2.09%).
Meanwhile, 2 schools in Guwahati have been closed for seven days after detection of COVID-19 positive cases as a preventive measure .
A press statement said ” In view of detection of COVID-19 positive students at NPS International & Jatiya Vidyalaya under Kamrup Metropolitan District and in the interest of the maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst the teaching staff and students, the school authority is directed to close the school for the next 7 days.”
The Assam government has also welcomed the decision by Union Government to allow COVID19 vaccine for everyone above 18 years from May 1 .
Till today a total of 16,66,550 citizens in the state has been vaccinated which includes 13,45,067 for the 1st dose and 3,21,483 for the 2nd dose and the state has 5,19,510. vaccines in stock .
