Shillong ( Meghalaya), Nov 29 : Why the public can gather in thousands at public functions and not for religious gathering questioned Rev. Batkupar Dunai.
Releasing his video clippings in presence of media today, Rev. Dunai said he does not have any grudge against the state Government for holding the Cherry Blossom Festival, the celebration of new Eastern West Khasi Hills District and holding of By-elections. But, what surprised the public is that there is no restriction for people to take part in these public programmes, as “All are invited”.
Rev. Dunai also cited an example of one of the programmes of the just concluded Cherry Blossom Festival a major law and order problem could be avoided only due to God’s grace.
He added that in the programmes organized by the state the people can participate as they like and for the religious gatherings, the church authorities have been instructed that they should strictly adhere to the health protocols issued by the Health Department.
“The state Government should apply the same yardstick while holding public functions, as well as for religious gatherings” Rev. Dunai said. “Thousands of people are allowed to take part in public functions while in religious gatherings strict restrictions are followed ”, he said, adding that only 75 percent of the faithful’s are allowed to take part in church services by wearing of masks and maintaining social distance.
He appealed to the govt to allow people to freely worship God without any restrictions .
