Tura (Meghalaya), Aug 6: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has recovered the body of Agriculture Officer Teseng M. Sangma, who went missing after being swept away by the strong currents of the Ganol River last week. The body was located in the downstream area of the river at Banseng Wari, and the SDRF team faced immense challenges in retrieving it due to the river’s strong currents and rough terrain.
Despite the difficulties, the SDRF personnel successfully extricated the body from the river by guiding it downstream using ropes and brought it to the shore. M.K. Sangma, Director of Civil Defence, Meghalaya, supervised the operation. The SDRF team is now manually transporting the body from Banseng Wari to the nearest road through treacherous terrain.
The search operation, which lasted four days, was a complex and challenging task for the SDRF team. The officer’s disappearance occurred during a family picnic near Sella Wari in West Garo Hills, where he was caught in the strong current while attempting to cross the river, swollen due to heavy rainfall. The recovery of Teseng M. Sangma’s body brings a tragic end to the intense search operation.
