Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 4: In a significant stride towards enhancing Meghalaya’s tourism infrastructure, the Tourism Department and the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Orchid Hotel into the luxurious Aurika Hotel Shillong.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed his delight at the project, highlighting that it’s a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd will invest ₹124 crores to bring this luxury project to life.
The Aurika Hotel Shillong will boast 130 luxurious rooms, top-of-the-line facilities, banquet halls, and other amenities designed to attract high-end clientele from around the world. This development is expected to promote large-scale MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism in the state.
According to the Chief Minister, this project will not only contribute to the overall growth of Meghalaya’s tourism sector but also generate significant financial gains for the MTDC.
