Tura (Meghalaya), June 9 : At least three members of a family died in a massive landslide that took place in Gambegre area of Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district.
The 3 victims have been identified as Pritish Marak (mother), Almost Marak (son) and daughter Aianbe Marak (daughter).
Sengrik Sangma (father) and Thobias Marak (son) survived the tragedy and are in critical condition in a hospital.
According to police , a 2 -year – old child Tanush Hajong lost his life when their house was destroyed in a landslide in Samati village of Betasing block in South West Garo Hills at around 4 AM Thursday.
One timber bridge over Bandra river connecting Gilmatdam village and Dombagre village under Dalu PS jurisdiction has been washed away.
Landslides have also been reported from Akinpara village.
Last night, two timber bridge i.e., one at Morop Bajar and another at Makalgonchu, both over Bandra river under Kherapara OP jurisdiction were washed away.
Amguri Bridge in Selsella Block area is under severe threat and may collapse.
Meanwhile ,one truck capsized near Tura Polytechnic Junction, Chitoktak.
Due to incessant rains on Wednesday night , the water level is rising in most of the water bodies in the district.
