Shillong ( Meghalaya), Aug 13 : Four village heads from Meghalaya have been chosen to attend the Independence Day Ceremony 2025 at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi as special guests, in recognition of their outstanding efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G).
The awardees include Leverius Dkhar, Chairman of the Village Water and Sanitation Committee from Laitmynsaw, East Khasi Hills; Krin Dkhar from Lumshken, East Jaintia Hills; Cacino Marak, village head of Aminda Rangsagre, West Garo Hills; and Almen D. Shira from Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.
These village heads have demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting cleanliness, sanitation, and sustainable water management in their respective villages. Leverius Dkhar ensured smooth water supply to every household through the Jal Jeevan Mission, while Krin Dkhar led his village to achieve clean water from natural forest sources. Cacino Marak implemented biogas plants, composting units, and a plastic waste management unit, making her village an ODF Plus Model Village.
The village heads will be felicitated for their efforts in leading their villages to achieve ODF Plus status and promoting sustainable development.
