Shillong(Meghalaya), April 2: Meghalaya is bracing for a warmer-than-usual April-June period, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall. The state’s maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to soar, with no relief from heatwaves.
The IMD cites neutral El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions, indicating a lack of significant rainfall-enhancing factors. This may lead to increased thermal discomfort, water scarcity, and impacts on rain-dependent agriculture.
Residents are advised to prepare for potential water shortages and heat-related issues. The state’s agriculture sector, reliant on timely rainfall, is likely to face challenges.
