Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 10: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the recent disappearance and deaths of two children in the state. A 7-year-old from Nongrah and a 13-year-old from Khyndewso were the latest victims, prompting the Commission to take suo-motu cognizance of the matter.
The Commission has extended its condolences to the bereaved families and urged the authorities to take immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future. In response to the rising cases of missing children, the Commission has submitted Model Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tracing missing or kidnapped children to the Government for urgent implementation.
The Commission has also entrusted the matter to the police authorities, emphasizing the need for swift and thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice. With the state witnessing a surge in child abduction cases, the Commission’s intervention is seen as a crucial step towards ensuring the safety and security of children in the state.
