Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 9: The State Cabinet has taken several significant decisions aimed at improving the state’s healthcare, governance, and judicial systems. In a major relief to healthcare professionals, the Cabinet has confirmed and formally recognized the appointments of 221 bonded nurses and paramedic staff who were appointed between 2008 and 2012.
The Cabinet has also approved the Meghalaya Mental Healthcare Rules, providing a structured framework for mental health services across the state. This move is expected to bring much-needed regulation and guidance to institutions involved in mental healthcare and rehabilitation.
To simplify the process of renewing government lease lands, the Cabinet has delegated powers to the Deputy Commissioner to process renewals. This decision is expected to reduce the need for extensive documentation and government intervention, making the process more efficient.
The Cabinet has also approved proposals to amend the Meghalaya Judicial Service Rules and the Meghalaya Higher Judicial Service Rules. The amendments include making knowledge of a local language, either Khasi or Garo, mandatory for judicial service aspirants.
Furthermore, the Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Pharmacist Service Rules, marking the formal adoption of structured service regulations for pharmacists in the state. These decisions demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving the state’s healthcare, governance, and judicial systems.
