Shillong ( Meghalaya ), July 4 : The state cabinet which met today approved the enhancement of grant In aid to adhoc school teachers.
As per the decisions , for the higher secondary , secondary & science teachers, the enhancement will be ₹9000, and for upper primary , lower primary Hindi & 4th teachers of the SSA, the enhancement will be ₹6,000.
Through this, teachers of higher . Secondary schools will get ₹33,000/-, secondary schools will get ₹29,000 & science teachers will get ₹31,000.Upper primary teachers will get ₹22,000, lower primary teachers will get ₹18,000,Hindi teachers will get ₹18,000 & the 4th teachers for SSA will get ₹18,000.
The total impact of this decision will be ₹100 Crores (approx) annually on the government expenditure. and will be applicable from July 1 .
The cabinet also approved the amendment to the Meghalaya Professions, Trades, Callings & Employment Tax Act. This will make registration mandatory for all. For scheduled areas it will be done by District Councils & for non schedule areas it will done by the taxation department .
On Monday , the cabinet also approved the National Law University Ordinance 2022. Initially the university will function from a temporary campus & will be subsequently shifted to a permanent campus where 60 students would be enrolled per year .
The decision to establish the National Law University will will be placed in the Assembly for the final approval. The financial impact would be ₹6.5 crores per year .
The cabinet also decided that any one with income of less than ₹1.8 Lakhs will not have to pay the tax which earlier applied to individuals with incomes of ₹50,000.
The 12 gross income slabs are now reduced to 4. The ₹1.8-₹3 Lakhs slab will be ₹500, ₹3-5 Lakhs slab will be ₹1000, ₹5-₹7.5 Lakhs will be ₹1500 and above ₹7.5 Lakhs will be ₹2500.
For decriminalization of minor offences (for not paying of taxes) which previously led to imprisonment of up to 3 years, the cabinet today decided to do away with the provision of imprisonment by adding a penalty of payment of 4 times the amount due. There will also be an interest amount at 12% Per Annum for those paying late.
Amendment to be applicable from April 1, this year .
