Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 23 : In a significant blow to the drug menace, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma led the incineration of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth ₹53.86 crore at Star Cement Ltd. in East Jaintia Hills District. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Snaiwbhalang Dhar, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, and other dignitaries.
The destroyed drugs were part of cases registered in five districts: East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Jaiñtia Hills, and East Jaiñtia Hills. Chief Minister Sangma reiterated the state’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace, which has devastated the lives of many young people.
The government’s efforts are being supported by the Drug Reduction, Elimination, & Action Mission (DREAM), which aims to help vulnerable youth overcome drug addiction. This initiative is part of Meghalaya’s comprehensive approach to tackling the drug problem, including rehabilitation and community involvement.
