Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 4 : St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School in Tura marked a significant milestone on Dec 4, with the release of its Platinum Jubilee Souvenir. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, dignitaries, alumni, students, and parents.
The Chief Minister praised the Souvenir Committee for their efforts in compiling the publication, which captures the school’s rich history and achievements. He also commended the students for their outstanding cultural performances, which included a Pirate Dance, Wangala Dance, and Ballet Dance.
Emphasizing the importance of service and perseverance, the Chief Minister highlighted the life of Sister Camino and the dedication of the sisters and teachers who have served at the school. He noted that the state’s young population is both a tremendous opportunity and a significant challenge, and that nurturing youth through guidance, opportunities, and values-based education is crucial.
The Chief Minister discussed education reform, acknowledging the challenges and outlining plans for improvement. He stressed the importance of cultural preservation, suggesting that students should learn both Khasi and Garo languages up to Class 4 or 5.
To support the school, the Chief Minister announced two special contributions: a new school bus from his Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund and musical instruments to support the school band.
The Platinum Jubilee Souvenir is a testament to the school’s commitment to excellence and its legacy of nurturing future leaders. The event concluded with the students performing the Jubilee Song.
