Shillong(Meghalaya), Nov 01: The city of Shillong was aglow with vibrant festivities as residents celebrated Kali Puja and Diwali with great fervor. The Vivekananda Memorial Club (VMC) Puja in Laban area, one of the city’s most prominent celebrations, drew thousands of devotees and revelers.
VMC Puja Committee Secretary, said, “This year’s celebrations were particularly special, with a stunning idol of Goddess Kali and an array of cultural programs.”
The puja pandal was decorated with intricate designs and lights, while devotees offered prayers and performed rituals to appease the goddess. The evening was filled with music, dance, and drama performances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage.
At other locations across the city, residents celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, with fireworks, candles, and diyas (earthen lamps). Families gathered for traditional meals and exchanged gifts, while children enjoyed the festive atmosphere.
Shillong’s Police Bazaar and G.S. Road were transformed into a vibrant marketplace, with stalls selling traditional sweets, decorations, and festive items.
Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma extended greetings to the people of Meghalaya, saying, “May the spirit of Kali Puja and Diwali bring prosperity, peace, and harmony to our state.”
