Itanagar ( Arunachal Pradesh), Jan 15 : The famous Parshuram Kund Mela began in Lohit district on Tuesday .
Devotees from across the country visit the sacred place to take a holy dip in the Kund on the occasion of Makar Sankranti every year.
So far more than 12,000 footfalls of pilgrims are recorded so far who have come to the Mela this year.
Parshuram Kund, nestled in the lower reaches of Lohit River is of great significance for the Hindus.
The legendary beheading of his mother by Lord Parshuram and eventual penance followed by taking a bath in the so-called Brahma Kund, has added religious significance to this place.
Every year thousands of Hindu devotees throng in and take a holy dip in the sacred Kund on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday announced to make the Parshuram Kund Mela a calendar event of the state to boost spiritual tourism.
