Shillong (Meghalaya), March 28: Only two persons were beaten to death in Ichamati after a CAA protest by certain pressure groups on Wednesday even as there have been rumours floating that 3 persons were killed in Ichamati violence, clarified a press note from the East Khasi Hills SP .
“There has been a rumour floating on social media that a third dead body has been reported in Ichamati area. This is not true. We have searched the entire area and talked to all concerned villages”, East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi said in a press statement.
Meanwhile, the postmortem of the two killed, Easn Sing and Sujit Dutta both working as labourers in a stone quarry were completed in Shillong Civil Hospital this evening and the bodies would be handed over to the relatives on Friday morning.
Talking to this reporter the brother of Late Sujit Dutta said, how could the agitators be so ruthless to beat a poor daily labourer and sole bread earner of family to death though no fault of his own.
Police are yet to make any arrests in this case.
East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi said,”We have strong leads on some individuals who we suspect to have committed the crimes at Ichamati but no arrests have been made so far. We are investigating the motive behind the crime. We urge everyone to maintain peace and abide by the rule of law.”
