Shillong ( Meghalaya), Aug 11 : NorthEast United FC concluded their Durand Cup group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against Rangdajied United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here . Bekey Oram and Jairo Samperio scored their first goals for the Highlanders, who came back from a 1-2 deficit to finish as table toppers in Group E with seven points from three games.
The Highlanders had already secured their spot in the quarterfinals before this match, allowing Head Coach Juan Pedro Benali to make significant changes to the lineup. Only Chema Nunez retained his place from the win over Shillong Lajong FC, while young goalkeeper Arman Tamang made his senior team debut and several other players received their first starts.
Despite the draw, NorthEast United FC’s strong performance throughout the group stage has positioned them well for their upcoming quarterfinal match.
