Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 2: Northeast United FC has kicked off their Durand Cup title defense in style, securing a convincing 3-1 win over Malaysian Armed Forces FT (ATM FA) in their Group E opener at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. Moroccan striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie was the star of the show, scoring a stunning hat-trick in the 23rd, 29th, and 70th minutes to lead his team to victory.
Ajaraie’s hat-trick was a masterclass in clinical finishing, with his first goal coming from a well-taken strike in the 23rd minute. He doubled the lead just six minutes later, showcasing his composure and precision in front of goal. Ajaraie’s third goal, a beautifully crafted strike in the 70th minute, sealed the win for Northeast United FC.
The Highlanders dominated the game from the start, with their attacking flair and solid defense proving too much for the Malaysian side. Muhamad Amir Faisal’s late consolation goal in the 88th minute was a mere consolation for the visitors.
