Shillong (Meghalaya), August 21: In a bid to maintain law and order and prevent any potential security threats, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills District has imposed a night curfew along the International Border with Bangladesh. The curfew, which will be in effect from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, prohibits the movement of people within a radius of 1 kilometer from the Zero Line (International Border).
The order, issued under Section 163 BNSS, aims to prevent unauthorized crossing of the international boundary, smuggling of contraband goods, and other illegal activities. The restrictions also prohibit unauthorized processions, unlawful assemblies of five or more persons, and the carrying of arms or other instruments that can be used as weapons.
The decision to impose the night curfew has been taken in view of the current situation in Bangladesh, where there is a likelihood of cross-border movement of unwanted elements, militant groups, and smugglers. The curfew is expected to help prevent any potential security threats and maintain peace and stability in the region.
The prohibited items under the curfew include cattle, contraband goods, betelnut, betel leaves, dry fish, bidis, cigarettes, and chai patti, among others. The order is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the region and its inhabitants.
