Shillong ( Meghalaya), Jan 5 : The Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju today, February 5, 2022, said that in this financial year, Modi government has earmarked more than 76,000 crore rupees from the Central Budget for the development of North East.
Addressing media here , Rijiju also said that the Modi government has also earmarked an additional budget allocation of 1500 crore rupees for the NE states to cover those areas of development that are not covered by the different schemes.
Last year, the budget allocation for the region was only 68,000 crore rupees.
Rijiju said it is an honour for the NE that PM Narendra Modi has made him one of the Cabinet ministers in the Union Government. He also added that the PM was thoughtful for the development of the region by giving an additional budget allocation for the eight NE states through the MP development Initiatives to ensure development in the areas which are not covered by the different schemes.
The Minister also said the central government has provided huge development for the development of the North Eastern Region through road projects, national highways, railway lines, education, drinking water and airports.
When asked about the border issue with China , Rijiju termed Arunachal Pradesh, the state from where he comes faces a big challenge due to its topography. He admitted that there are issues on the border-line, due to lack of proper demarcation. “There have been instances that people from Arunachal Pradesh unknowingly cross over to China and similarly the Chinese also cross into the Indian territories. But all these issues were sorted out” Rijiju said.
On interstate border issues , Rijiju said that there are visible signs that the different states are trying to resolve the border problems amicably. He also that the Central leadership is also keen to see that the border problems among the different NE states are resolved amicably.
When asked about the militancy in NE, Kiren Rijiju said the militant groups are giving up arms and youths are joining the mainstream and added that peace is important for development .
