Shillong(Meghalaya), April 12: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Shillong, has initiated an inquiry into the killing of a daily wage laborer in the city on Wednesday.
Arjun Ray (52 years), who worked as a construction labourer at a private building in Mawlai Mawroh along with two others were grievously attacked by a group of masked persons on April 10 at around 11:15 am.
Later, Ray was declared dead at NEIGHRIMS, here.
On March 27, two limestone labourers were killed by a mob in Ichamati bordering Bangladesh under Sohra Civil Subdivision. The incident occurred after the anti-CAA rally organized by KSU and both the victims were passersby under which created fear psychosis and insecurity amongst the non – tribal, especially the wage earners.
The MHRC has taken Suo motu cognizance of the incident and has moved to seek answers from the concerned authorities.
A statement issued by the Secretary of MHRC, said that a notice has been sent to the Director General of Police, Meghalaya, requesting an Action Taken Report within a stipulated period of 15 days.
