Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Nov 29 : The members of All India Trinamool Congress from Meghalaya were felicitated today by its Chief Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.
The twelve Meghalaya Congress legislators including former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Dr. Mukul M. Sangma deserted their party on the ground that they were dissatisfied with the style of functioning of the state leadership of the Congress party in Meghalaya.
After the felicitation , the state TMC leaders elected Charles Pyngrope as the Meghalaya TMC president in presence Trinimool president Mamata Banerjee and general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Earlier ,Former Meghalaya CM, Mukul Sangma was named the parliamentary party leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state while , Umroi MLA George B Lyngdoh was elected as the opposition chief whip and Mawsynram legislator Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang as secretary.
After the meeting all the legislators led by the former CM flew to Kolkata on to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other senior TMC leaders.
The developments came after TMC became the principal opposition party in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly after the former Congress legislators deserted the party and joined TMC .
