Shillong(Meghalaya), Mar 10: A Khasi youth was lynched to death at Passang area of Mawkynrew on Sunday at around 8 pm. The incident occurred when the deceased and eight others had ygone to Syntung for a picnic and lost their way while trying to return to Shillong.
The group of nine boys were assaulted by a group of villagers when they drove past Passang area. Three boys were grievously injured while the rest managed to escape to a nearby forest.
A police statement said : “On the evening of 9th March, a police team contingent was sent to the area to arrest the culprits. 27 suspects were arrested, two of the suspect were verified as juvenile and a senior citizen and released on the spot. Case has been registered under relevant section of law and all efforts are being made to nab the other culprits involved in the heinous crime,”
The state police have arrested 27 people in connection with the incident .
Three youths were grievously injured while the other six youths managed to escape into the nearby jungle.
A police team had managed to rescue the six others as well as the injured on Monday morning.
The injured youths were immediately admitted at hospital where one succumbed to his injuries before reaching at Shillong civil hospital.
Home minister Lahkmen Rymbui, no one will be spared who involved in the incident and a ll efforts are going on to nab all the culprits who involved in the incident.
The killed youth has been identified as Macmillan Kharshandy
