Shillong (Meghalaya) , Sept 26 : At least thriteen people are reported to have died due to heavy rains in the state in the past 72 hours .
According to official sources ,as of now five people remain missing while 985 people from 37 villages across the East Khasi Hills District , West Khasi Hills District , Ri – Bhoi District have severely affected during to the incident rains in the past one week .
A landslide near Dhobighat in Laban area of Shillong killed two young state level woman cricketers on Friday . Their bodies were recovered from the debris of their houses which was washed away . Three others from the same houses are still missing . Rescue operations are still on to trace them .
The rainfall has ceased since Saturday morning.
A red -alert was issued in the state between September 24 and 25, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in isolated places.
According to reports available , several bridges have collapsed and roads damaged in different parts of the state due to landslides and flash floods.
