Shillong ( Meghalaya), June 6 : As part of the Meghalaya Environment Week Celebration a blood donation program was organized on Monday by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) office in collaboration with the Regional Blood Centre Pasteur institute.
The program was held at the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency office at Nongrim Hills, here .
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Myrthong stated that this is a bold initiative also that voluntary blood donation is a noble deed, she continues “one unit of blood can save three people’s lives, the blood donated will be processed into three different components i.e. RBC, Platelets and Plasma.”
Since Meghalaya is ranked very low in voluntary blood donation, campaigns like these would be very beneficial in saving people’s lives ,as testified by the testimonies of many donors. In particular Vivek khongsti in his testimony after his blood donation said that “this blood donation campaign is part of the environment week celebration which is not only about saving the earth but also about saving the life’s of the people in it. A humble initiative but a great start to commemorate the environment week celebration”
