Shillong (Meghalaya), April 8: In a thrilling match, Meghalaya emerged victorious, defeating Mizoram by 33 runs in their opening match of the 2nd NECDC Senior Women’s Inter-State Tournament 2025. The tournament, organized by the North East Cricket Development Council, is being hosted by the Sikkim Cricket Association in Rangpo, Sikkim.
Meghalaya posted a total of 112/6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Luiza Tamang scoring 34 runs from 27 balls and Debasmita Dutta contributing 28 runs from 26 balls. Ankita Sarma and Monica L Phawa also played crucial roles, scoring 20 and 12 runs respectively. Luiza’s impressive batting included three sixes, and her 51-run partnership with Debasmita for the first wicket set the tone for Meghalaya’s innings.
In response, Mizoram struggled to match Meghalaya’s performance, with Felfeli Pautu and Hmangaihsangi scoring 31 and 30 runs respectively. However, Debasmita’s exceptional bowling, claiming 3/12 in 2.2 overs, and Daiaka Emigale Warjri’s 3/16 in 4 overs, proved to be the turning point, restricting Mizoram to 79 runs in 18.2 overs.
The win marks a strong start for Meghalaya in the tournament, showcasing the team’s skills and determination. The NECDC Senior Women’s Inter-State Tournament promises to be an exciting competition, with several talented teams vying for the top spot.
