Shillong (Meghalaya), Sep 8: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Autumn Session has begun, focusing on crucial discussions and decision-making. The five-day session, from Sep 8 to 12, will cover three days of government business and two days of private members’ business.
The session will see key discussions on supplementary budget allocations and the state’s appropriation bill, with the Meghalaya Appropriation (No. III) Bill, 2025, scheduled for introduction, consideration, and passage. Private members will have their opportunity to raise constituency-specific concerns and policy matters through bills, motions, and resolutions.
Several pressing issues are expected to dominate the session, including the rise in cases of drugs and HIV, issues concerning illegal migrants, funds to councils, ADC bailout, missing coal, and education reforms. VPP MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit will move a special motion on the drugs and HIV issue, while Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma will move a resolution regarding the decision of the state government to allot funds to the district councils.
The session will also address routine legislative matters, including announcements from the Business Advisory Committee, nomination of panel chairmen, and the laying of various ordinances and government reports.
