Shillong (Meghalaya ), Dec 16 : Vijay Diwas is celebrated today every year all across the Nation to commemorate the glorious victory of Indian Armed Forces over the Pakistan Armed Forces in the Indo-Pak War 1971.
The successful culmination of the operations resulted in birth of a new Nation-Bangladesh, out of East Pakistan. Though the event is important for the whole Nation, however it holds a special significance for 101 Area because 101 Area took part in the conduct of operations in East Pakistan and has the unique distinction of being the first Indian Formation to enter Dacca on Dec 16, 1971.
49th Vijay Diwas was celebrated in Shillong by 101 Area today .
Lieutenant General Tumul Varma, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding 101 Area laid a wreath at Rhino War Memorial Shillong, on behalf of all ranks of 101 Area, to commemorate, with reverence, the contribution of all brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice, in the line of duty.
Veteran Representatives also participated in the sombre ceremony.
