Nongpoh(Meghalaya), Oct 11 : A 22-year-old man, identified as Iainehskhem Kharsati, has been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a child in the Umiam PS/Mawlasnai OP jurisdiction. The suspect, who hails from Kalapangti village, has confessed to the crime, admitting that he sexually assaulted and then murdered the child.
The investigation is currently underway, and the authorities have assured that they will complete all legal formalities and file chargesheets within 14 days. A fast-track trial will also be ensured, with the aim of securing a conviction within the next 3-4 months.
The suspect will be added to the National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO). The authorities have expressed their condolences to the family of the victim and prayed for their strength during this difficult time.
