Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 7: Mawlai SC made a strong statement in the Shillong Premier League 2025, thrashing Sawmer SC 6-2 at the SSA Stadium, here . The match saw some thrilling action, with Mawlai dominating the proceedings from the start. Ricky Chyne opened the scoring in the 17th minute, followed by Kevin Rymbai’s deflected shot in the 18th minute. Balajied Syiemlieh added a third goal in the 23rd minute, and Robert Khongriah scored twice, in the 49th and 81st minutes. Kevin Rymbai also scored a penalty in the 57th minute.
Sawmer’s Enestar Malngiang scored twice in the 68th and 79th minutes, but it was too little, too late, as Mawlai secured a convincing win. The match showcased Mawlai’s strong team dynamics, with the team going 3-0 up in just 23 minutes and leading 5-0 before Sawmer scored their first goal.
The win marks a strong start for Mawlai in the SPL 2025 season, and they look poised to build on their second-place finish in the previous season. Sawmer, on the other hand, will need to regroup and reassess their strategy to avoid a similar fate to last season, when they narrowly avoided relegation.
