Imphal (Manipur), May 2 : The Izei river is flowing above danger mark with continuous rain throughout the day and has created a panic situation among the people residing near the river .
Normal life has been severely affected in Tamenglong and Noney Districts due to the incessant monsoon rains since yesterday. Two houses including one shop along wiith the goods was compltely washed away by the massive landslide/mudslides at Sibilong village (Barak bridge point) near NH-37(Imphal -Jiribam Road) under Tousem Sub -Division ,Tamenglong district.
Around 200 metres distance has been filled with mudslides and one loaded truck coming from Jiribam side has stuck in the mudslides. Many vehicles are stranded on both sides of the highway. BIPL under NHIDCL which was assigned for the construction and maintenance works has now been pressed into service to clear the debris .
Clearance is being done using excavators on two major landslide sites. However, officials said the clearing would require more heavy duty machines, especially large excavators and more manpower to restore movement along the road .
Transport and Drivers’ Council president H Ranjit stated that he visited the site on hearing that several passenger buses and goods vehicles were stranded along the National Highway due to the landslide.He stated that they were ready to provide all possible help in clearing the debris .
However ,several stranded vehicles have started heading towards Imphal.
