Imphal (Manipur), April 8: Chief Minister chaired a high-level security meeting with senior officials, including Home Minister K. Govindas, to review the law-and-order situation. The meeting discussed measures to address current challenges and ensure peace, stability, and public safety. The government assured it would take necessary steps to safeguard lives and interests and uphold law and order.
Manipur’s Bishnupur district was rocked by a bomb blast that killed two children, a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl and injured their mother. The attack, allegedly carried out by suspected Kuki militants, sparked widespread protests and violence.
Two protesters were also killed and several others injured when security forces fired on a mob attempting to storm a CRPF camp.
The government has imposed an indefinite curfew in four valley districts – Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching – and handed over the probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Internet and mobile data services have been suspended in five valley districts for three days.
The state government is working to restore peace, with Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh chairing a review meeting and announcing the deployment of additional security forces. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has appealed for calm and assured that the culprits will be caught.
