Mumbai, April 12: Asha Bhosle, the iconic voice of Indian cinema, breathed her last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital today, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 92.
Asha Bhosle’s melodious voice captivated audiences for over eight decades, with an unparalleled repertoire of 12,000+ songs in 20+ languages.
Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha ji’s journey began in 1943, and she soon became a household name. Her father, Dina Nath Mangeshkar, was a renowned classical singer, and her siblings, Lata Mangeshkar and Usha Mangeshkar, are also accomplished singers.
Asha Bhosle’s remarkable career earned her numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, four BFJA Awards, 18 Maharashtra State Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards, and two Grammy nominations. She was honored with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award (2000) and Padma Vibhushan (2008).
