Shillong(Meghalaya), Oct 13 : Lajong strengthened their hold on the Shillong Premier League title with a resounding 5-0 victory over Nongrim Hills at the SSA Stadium. The win took Lajong to 18 points after eight matches, one point ahead of second-placed Langsning, who have one game left.
The match was one-sided from the start, with Wilbert Marbaniang opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Deibormame Tongper doubled the lead just before halftime, and Ricky Kharkongor scored twice in the second half to seal the win. Banlamkupar Rynjah also chipped in with a goal.
Nongrim Hills struggled to create chances, and their goalkeeper Kitboklang Marbaniang had to make a diving save to deny Ricky in stoppage time. Despite their efforts, the team couldn’t find a way past Lajong’s defense. With this win, Shillong Lajong are just one step away from defending their SPL title. The final push begins tomorrow when Langsning takes on Malki in a crucial match.
