Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 27: East Khasi Hills emerged as the undisputed champions in both men’s and women’s divisions at the 31st State Karate Championship 2025. The three-day tournament, held at the JN Indoor Stadium, Polo, saw 512 karatekas from eight districts showcase their skills in kumite and kata events.
East Khasi Hills’ dominance was evident, with West Khasi Hills finishing second in the men’s category and Ri-Bhoi taking the runner-up spot in the women’s division. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where Cabinet Minister Shri Sanbor Shullai praised the young athletes’ dedication and thanked parents for their support.
Four Best Karateka awards were presented to East Khasi Hills’ athletes: Ferrando Wanniang (Junior Boys), Ferdinand Samkupar Rani (Senior Men), Emika Deimaia Myrthong (Junior Girls), and Rebeka Nongspung (Senior Women). With the National Games 2027 just around the corner, these young karatekas are gearing up to take on the best in the country.
