Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 24: IR Iran emerged champions of the Women’s Tri-Nation International Tournament, registering a convincing 3-0 victory over Nepal in the final match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.
The Iranian team dominated the match from the start, with Sara Didar opening the scoring in the 49th minute. Zahra Ghanbari doubled the lead with a brilliant set-piece in the 52nd minute, and Shabnam Behesht sealed the win with a stunning left-footer.
The trophy was presented to the Iranian team by officials from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Meghalaya Football Association. This tournament showcases Meghalaya’s capabilities as a world-class host, providing a platform for young players to showcase their talent and connect with global competitions.
The tournament’s success follows other notable international events in Shillong, including friendly matches and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. With this win, Iran takes home the title, and the focus now shifts to the next match on October 27.
