New Delhi, March 30: The wait is over! India’s most comprehensive data collection exercise, Census 2027, is set to begin on April 1, with the first phase of House listing and Housing Census (HLO). This marks a historic milestone as India’s first fully digital census, leveraging mobile apps and real-time monitoring systems.
The census will be conducted in two phases, with the HLO phase running from April to September 2026, followed by Population Enumeration in February 2027. Citizens can self-enumerate via government portal or mobile app, and buildings will be geo-tagged with unique IDs. Personal data will be protected under Section 15 of the Census Act.
With a focus on accuracy and efficiency, Census 2027 will provide critical insights into India’s demographic and socio-economic landscape, shaping policy decisions and welfare initiatives. The census is expected to be a gamechanger for the country, informing strategies for growth and development.
